And then he holds out his hand, fingers relaxed, palm down. The blue lines of the bloody dagger are stark on his pale skin. ]

Different marks, then. And I still have no idea what they are actually for.

The colors match those on the dossier. [ He withdraws his hand after Luca gets a look, reaching into the inner breast of his robes to pull out his phone to indicate it. ] It wouldn't surprise me if it coincided with them somehow.

[He's read the dossier but he still glances at the phone when Ming Yi indicates to it.]

It makes me think we're in groups with leaders.

[ The phone gets set down with his numerous bowls and plates, before he - eats a bit, because Luca's not left so far.

When he finishes the next mouthful, the conversation continues. ]

Probably. Someone I already know has the same mark as you, and I've seen a number of other ones. A total of eight groups, with 37 people.

Give or take. Whatever the symbols mean, they're grouping us together to a degree.

Orange hair and blue eyes, tall, male. I didn't notice it at first until I saw it through his glove.

Week 0, Friday

[He's going to be walking by the simulation room because of course he's curious and looking around. But he finds Ming Yi instead.]

Ah? Are you looking too?

[ Arms crossed as he stays near the door, he looks away from the inside of the simulation room to Luca. ]

Already did, though I want to confirm something. Does the room look like it did the last time you saw it?

[ u assume right and for that Luca gets a prize ]

All three of us that checked the room out the moment the doors unlocked can see that the control in the podium is completely destroyed. Room won't work for anyone anymore, but no one else can see the damages.

If it is, we've agreed to the terms of this place, in a way. We just didn't know how far it went.

I suppose. He was decent enough to hold a conversation with.

[ I can confirm via the mods' message for our mini-invest that it does not work whatsoever for anyone! Nothing lights up, nothing changes, but it just seems to. Not work, rather than be destroyed, when it's anyone that wasn't on the investigation.

Ming Yi is patient, and assessing, considering the runaround of information he's been getting today. ]

I feel like "people will die" is something that should have been mentioned in the contract.

[He won't mess with it too much at least. Once he sees it doesn't work, he sighs.]

Why in the world would they break this, of all things? Especially after all the warnings this week.

People are always dying, but as a common courtesy you don't typically murder someone baselessly. [ In hindsight this is hilarious. ] I doubt they thought it was worth mentioning, given the fact that they're not really here to lay down any rules or maintain order.

I'm working under the guess that it's broken because someone wanted to hide the last simulation that it ran. I don't know enough about the technology to confirm it, and I don't think I could repair it as-is, but it's deeply possible.

People are always dying, yes, but nobody here looks particularly old or frail. If they expected someone to die here, then it's worth mentioning. Sort of like the disclaimers on those switchback railways.

Now I wonder who would be smart enough to think of something like that.

Week 1, Sunday

[He's going to wait a sufficient amount of time for Ming Yi to tend to SQX before even going near the medbay. But eventually he does go over in that direction to check on both of them, but he finds Ming Yi first, so.]

How is she doing?

[ A fucking robot, apparently. ]

It would be hard to guess. Enough of us here aren't from places that have such advanced technology, but that doesn't rule any of us out - it doesn't take much more than practice to understand how something works, and we're all stuck here in a limited space together.

Week 2, Monday

[MING YI MING YI I don't know where he is but come get an interesting memory! Though on that last page, it ends after that first thought box and the memory cuts off with "now wanted something from me." Look, you can even see the moment hope leaves his eyes!

Luca seems embarrassed too, and he's glancing away as soon as the memory is over.]

[ Honestly he's just minding his own business - perhaps they're both en route somewhere else, which is certainly appropriate, given the memory. And he tracks it despite his surprise, following along and feeling that slow drain of hope until it's completely gone.

The look of surprise on his face starts to fade, a little, until it's just a dark shadow in his eyes after that. Something almost understanding. ]

Her hand's still enormous, but she seems to be coming along.

[ RIP to sqx for having to have that massive hand for like four hours, it's fine. ]

No sign of that metal nightmare after he was crushed?

[The "It's a shame about that" in regards to Luca not being a student was, in particular, hope-crushing. That's a very sensitive subject for Luca.]

Mmm. I suppose it's only an annoying trick, at least. It's better than forgetting important talents.

My loss in appetite wasn't particularly enjoyable, I don't imagine your mathematics was either.

Where we're from, there's a realm for ghosts. I would hope that, despite being sentient, he wouldn't find himself fortunate enough to have the same destination.

[ Glad to hear murderbot is gone, though. ]

Mmm, indeed. I had no idea your appetite was so important, though.

[He's not doubting that it is, he's just curious about the story behind it now.]

Do robots even have souls? I can't imagine they would end up as a ghost.

I've never encountered a robot before, but I should hope not. There are inanimate objects that can become spirits, though, with enough time, intent, or bloodshed.

It's - somewhat complicated. [ He might as well semi-explain. ] As a mortal, my stomach was basically ruined after two years of starvation. Not having much last week wasn't that odd for me, but I prefer when my appetite isn't wiped out like that.
