Jul. 9th, 2018 10:09 pmMagic in Luca's world runs on willpower. It's a bit complicated and involves a lot of science bullshit that I should explain fully at some point, but the core concept is this: it runs on willpower. The stronger your will is, the more stuff you can do. All magic in his world is done by one willpower overwhelming another and making stuff happen. You want to make fire? Your willpower has to be stronger than the kindling's willpower, and you force it to ignite itself. You want to lift a rock in the air? You overpower the rock's willpower to get it to defy the laws of gravity and float.
Luca specializes in a very specific kind of magic use. Namely, he counter-acts other people's magic attempts and nullifies them. So if someone tries to make fire around him, he applies just enough willpower to go 'nu-uh' and the fire doesn't happen in his personal space. His effective range is only about a meter around him, but in that space he can basically prevent anything magical from happening to him, so long as he's not caught off-guard. (Applying willpower takes conscious thought, so it doesn't happen automatically.)
Another part of his world's magic is that, if one person has a significantly stronger willpower than another, they can force that person to do things. Body control, basically. Luca has done this in canon before and doesn't shy away from it even though it violates like a million bodily autonomy permissions.
I'm going to generally use my best guess to try and figure out whose willpower is stronger than Luca's if this ever comes up in a thread, and I don't plan on making him even try to control someone else without asking OOCly first. But I still wanted to make an opt-out post for it. So, if you do not want Luca to control your character ever, just drop a note here and let me know. Similarly, if your character has a very strong will and you think Luca wouldn't be able to block their magic, let me know here as well. Generally he only does either thing if he's threatened or attacked first, so if this is a hard no for you then I can make sure that our threads don't head in that direction.
