That might work if someone snuck into Garreg Mach, but I'm pretty sure my teacher would be against putting someone non-trained in combat on the field. [ ... ] They do always appreciate tacticians and theorising though. And you might find crest, and Reason studies interesting.

... Yeah, I can see it now. I'll direct you towards Hanneman when we've got you settled. The man can talk forever, but he knows his stuff about the crest systems and he's a powerful mage as well.
He's a scholar first and foremost. I know he left the Empire on purpose, but I don't know him well enough to have ever asked why. But he's obsessive with his research, and if you believe rumours his goal is to make it so that anyone can have a crest if that's what they want. No arranging marriages and looking down on nobles who fail to produce heirs with crests.
