You mentioned something about lying on the sand. Are those the main things to do here -- swim, or just lie around?

Well, we could also jump off the cliff into the water.

[He points to a nearby cliff that juts out to the deeper parts of the water. Said cliff is only like 20 feet tall so it's not dangerously high.]

There's also building sandcastles and, if you don't mind being stereotypically romantic, long walks on the beach.

[ he looks up at the cliff. and then back down at luca with a raised eyebrow. ]

Explain the romance behind walking along a beach.

[ but he is moving out of the water, and back onto the sand. he's looking at the different shells sticking out of the sand, and the lap of the waves against the shore. ]

But jumping into the water... I can see the thrill of that.

A slow, meandering walk while holding hands can be quite nice, you know.

[ he just sort of blinks at the hand. it's not like he doesn't know what holding hands on a walk is, literally, but well. he's never done it before. but after a moment, he'll take luca's hand. ]

[Time for Yuri to experience it! Because he'll lace his fingers with Yuri's and let their arms hang between them as they start to walk down the beach. They're close enough to the water that the waves sometimes cover their feet too, but it doesn't impede walking.]

You know, truth be told, I've never done this either.

Given what you've told me, that doesn't surprise me. Would you have felt comfortable doing this back home?

[It certainly is something! And Luca is hoping that Yuri can't feel how quick his pulse is through their connected hands. He's already trying not to die of a heart attack here.]

Not really. Time spent between two men is limited to bars and bedrooms. It's assumed that if you want the company of a man, then it's about sex. After all, if you're looking for friendship or companionship, then you don't need a romantic partner for that. And if you want a romantic partner but no sex, you can just find a woman you get along with.

I never even thought to question it.

[Not until he came here and learned that being with a man isn't only about sex.]

People don’t question what’s considered to be normal. If they do question it, they’ll do it in private. And if they don’t and try to bring about change? Then they’ll be considered radical.

Not that it’s always a bad thing, changing the things that don’t work.

It sounds like you’ve already had a long think about all of this.

You say that, but it's hard to stop thinking. Usually that only happens when I sleep or when I'm 'indulging' with someone.

It’s doable. It’s just tough to make your brain stop whirring. It doesn’t always work when I’m trying to stop it myself.

It is what it is. But it can be better.

I would say you do a fair job of getting me to stop thinking.

I would say your conversational skills exceed all expectations personally. You're the first person I've talked to in a long, long time who's made me think so much about such complicated topics. That has to count for something.

Simpler topics are sometimes the best way to get information, you know. It's not a bad thing.

I wouldn't call it 'emulating', necessarily. Maybe...taking new ideas into consideration? It doesn't change my opinion on most things, but it does let me make more informed decisions. I was an overthinker long before I met you, you know.

[Still, he's walking on the beach with Yuri, holding hands and even swinging them just a little bit. Yuri's definitely made an impression on him.]
